About the Author

I am Trisha Rojo. Everybody calls me Trisha or Trish. I do have a second name: Isabel. Although, I think Isabel is a beautiful name than Trisha, I still prefer being called as Trisha. I love reading books. This is the way I was able to learn the English language. Plus, I love watching movies, tv shows, and YouTube videos. These types of media helped me learn how to pronounce words and learn an accent.

I love the media. A day in my life is never complete without scrolling through every type of media. I love listening to music on Spotify every time I do a chore. I love listening to lo-fi or calming music on YouTube whenever I study.

I also love watching YouTube videos, Netflix shows, or Hulu shows, whenever I eat or study. Whenever I have a free time, I use it as an opportunity to listen to music or watch a show. This just makes me more comfortable, relax, and I like to think that I am maximizing my time in doing those. But do other people do this too or are they the total opposite, and avoid social media to feel relaxed? How does other people feel when using media while eating and studying? There are different people with different interests who use media platforms. How do these media platforms adjust to the likes and hates of their users?

In addition to loving movies and tv shows, I also find filming videos fun too! I have a small YouTube channel where I post most of my videos and I edit them myself. The types of video I love to film and edit are montage videos. They are super fun to film and easy to edit. I love filming, especially when we go to a foreign place where I want to capture the beautiful sights. I also love filming because this is a way for me to always remember that I have been to other places and be able to reminisce in the future. That is why I appreciate a lot of directors and producers who make wonderful films. We are able to witness their creation when released in media platforms. Media also helps these filmmakers get the recognition they should have. I wonder what are process of making films and how hard it must be?

There are various types of media platforms available for every individual. Some of the familiar media platforms that most of us know today are newspaper, radio, television, and the newest social media or the Internet. While digital convergence has been slowly changing or sometimes replacing, we cannot forget how traditional media has opened a lot of opportunities and innovations. These platforms are also brought available for different kinds of purposes. May be educational, informative, or entertainment. Earlier in my introduction, I asked some questions about mass media and digital convergence. I will be answering those questions with further learning and research I have done in the past months.

How do other people feel when using media while eating and studying? I believe that humans do not think alike. Sure, we may agree on some opinions and things, but each of us thinks differently. This belief is the same for activities or hobbies. While research may say that certain foods include benefits while studying (Roizman, 2018), they might not be beneficial for everyone. Each individual has different hobbies and lifestyles. As well as using media while studying, this might be different for some students. While media has tons of advantages, it also presents disadvantages for students. It affects a student’s daily routine, social interaction, self-image, and focus while studying (The Effects of Social Media in Student Teens, 2018). Even though humans have different beliefs and opinions, everyone must be educated by social media’s benefits and consequences in their lifestyle.

There are different people with different interests who use media platforms. How do these media platforms adjust to the likes and hates of their users? In 300 BCE, philosopher Aristotle introduced the study of communication “rhetoric” (Pavlik & McIntosh, 2018). According to Aristotle, rhetoric is used during every communication. It includes three elements: author, audience, and text, which completes “The Rhetoric Triangle.” In this concept, the author creates a text to show to the audience. The text may be in different forms: media, objects, or printed works. Through this process, the author also receives suggestions and ratings from the audience. Because of this, the author can apply changes in their text to satisfy and properly accommodate the audience.

I wonder what is the process of making films and how hard it must be? In the earliest days of the motion picture, Thomas Alva Edison created the Kinetoscope, a “peep show” precursor to the motion picture viewerthat allowed a patent application from other scientists (Pavlik & McIntosh, 2018). Movies before only were black and white, not until the 1950s when colors were applied. From Kinetoscopes to big and bulky cameras, movies are difficult and expensive to produce. But, marketing and distribution is the key to a movie’s success (Pavlik & McIntosh, 2018). Even though movies are known to be one format of mass communication, television, radio, social media, and print media are associated with promoting movies.
